The AQA Economics Paper 3 (Economic Principles and Issues) is regarded as a ‘synoptic’ paper, which means that the questions are based on topics from across the microeconomics and macroeconomics specification. Section A comprises 30 multiple-choice questions, testing a range of knowledge.

This booklet is designed to support the synoptic thinking and reasoning required to be successful on Section B (known as the Investigation), in which you must combine all of your economic knowledge to write persuasively on a given real-world topic/theme.

This booklet provides a series of independent-study activities designed to explore 9 key economic topics, taken from across the microeconomics and macroeconomics elements of the specification, in a “synoptic” way. For each topic you will:

  • Review the topic, looking at the material over a range of levels
  • Make links and connections with other economic topics
  • Analyse relevant exam technique
  • Apply the topic in a real-world context
  • Tackle an exam-style question
  • Research additional examples and applications
