ABOUT THE LITERACY SKILLS WORKBOOK FOR A-LEVEL ECONOMICS
A-Level Economics Examiner reports often note that students lose marks because their ideas are not written with enough clarity. This booklet contains lots of accessible writing exercises that help A-Level Economics students to:
- Upgrade their language, particularly the use of specialist terminology;
- Write using an academic tone;
- Develop supported arguments.
The booklet also contains exercises that support effective economics writing. For example, students will build their confidence and ability in how to:
- Correctly interpret assessment and exam questions;
- Write effectively about data and diagrams;
- Reference assumptions;
- Build logical chains of reasoning using connectives;
- Use appropriate terminology in the most effective way.
Good writing often stems from strong reading skills. The Literacy Skills Workbook introduces students to techniques that helpo them engage with exam and assessment extracts and wider reading. A key benefit of these techniques is that students are better able to pick out the most relevant points and use them in answers.
The Literacy Skills Workbook also provided students with handy lists of academic language and phrases that can be use, along with a checklist for self-monitoring their writing style and standard.
