What should we call Hillary?

There has been some hoo-ha this week in the more gossipy elements of the political media about Hillary Clinton's apparent "abandonment" of part of her name. During her time as First Lady (when husband Bill was president) and also when working as a Senator, Mrs Clinton was keen to use her full name of Hillary Rodham Clinton, Rodham being her maiden name. Was this to distinguish herself from her husband and create a separate identity? Or simply following a typical naming convention of many married American women?
