For some questions, you'll be given the general relationship between x and y, but you'll have to figure out exactly what the formula is. This relationship is either directly proportional, or inversely proportional.

These videos tell you how to figure out which question is which, and how to figure it out once you know what type of proportion it is.

This video gives the general formulas of both types of proportion, and goes through several simple examples to help you get to grips with finding out the constant of proportion, k.

Directly and Inversely Proportional Relationships (Learn Math Tutorials)

Some questions won't ask you to find the formula, but will ask you to use the relationship to find out new values. Don't let the wording of the question catch you out! This video covers both direct, and indirect proportion word problems.

Inverse proportion (HEGARTYMATHS)

Direct and inverse relationships can be demonstrated by graphs. Learn some of the basic graph shapes so you can recognise them if they come up in your exam!
