6th May 2014

The Ministry of Justice have today announced longer sentences for drivers causing death or serious injury whilst banned. Drivers causing death will face up to ten years in prison, and those causing serious injuries up to four years. The current maximum for causing death by dangerous driving is two years. You might wish to ask your students to discuss which aims of sentencing are being prioritised here, and whether this change will act as an effective deterrent.
