What a stunning feat of engineering. The original Panama Canal handles approximately 3% of global shipping volumes. However, it is not wide enough for the latest mega-tankers. So Panama has built a much wider, new canal. In the process it is has completed the world's biggest engineering project. A quite stunning example of infrastructure investment to support economic development.
