Despite the welcome rains extinguishing many of the fires hitting Australia, there are still 80 fires burning across New South Wales and Victoria.

Despite the storms helping in some areas of the country, there have been incidences whereby the intensity of the storms have caused landslides which has hindered the ability of firefighters to reach key areas. Also, the concern is that the storms are short-lived and that the fires will continue for more time to come; at least into February.
