The Thwaites glacier is currently experiencing melting and the US ship Palmer aims to collect important evidence during its 52 day study.

Various evidence will be collected including the use of seal tags. These tags will enable scientists to collect important data regarding the nature of the sea water. Measurements of melting from the ice sheet itself will also be collected; with a concern that if the Thwaites glacier was to melt completely then the sea levels could rise by 80cm.
