After a 7 year battle the WTO has now ruled that Boeing received illegal subsidies from the US Government

This article from the BBC has some fabulous references for protectionism (particularly for OCR A593).

The WTO has now ruled for both parties but has settled on a figure of $5bn of illegal US subsidies, that had seriously hampered competition. Both the Americans and the Europeans are claiming this ruling as a victory, but this story does illustrate the role of the World Trade Organisation, in a context that GCSE students may find appealing.
