Vertical Integration - Volkswagen invests in mines to secure battery supply

An interesting example of backward vertical integration for you, with VW announcing plans to invest in mines to provide the raw materials required to produce electric batteries.
However, apart from implying that this investment is going to be in Canada, where it's planning to build a battery factory, there's little further detail, although the battle for raw materials is an increasingly important part of competition in the electric car sector.
