Renewables beat fossil fuels on 137 days in greenest year for UK energy |
7th January 2020
The changing nature of the UK's electricity generating capacity is highlighted in this Guardian article, with the rise of renewables quantified.
It is a remarkable change in a relatively short space of time and one that can be followed at Grid Watch one of my favourite websites.
- In 1990, 75% of UK's electricity was from coal.
- In 2019, 2% of electricity was from coal.
- Zero-carbon energy produced 48.5% of UK electricity (and 8.5% from Biomass).
