Microsoft Buys LinkedIn

Microsoft has purchased LinkedIn the (annoying) professional networking company in a deal worth $26 billion. Why would it do this? Microsoft apparently wants to be at the cutting edge of professional collaboration in the workplace. It has a cash balance of over $100bn but this is a risky technology takeover! The company is paying a 50% premium on the current LinkedIn share price.
