Inflation basket

The constituent parts of the basket that makes up the measure for CPI & RPI inflation is being updated to reflect changes in trends.

Tablet computers (such as iPads) and teenage fiction have been added to the basket of goods and services, used to calculate CPI and RPI. Both these have been added as they represent significant and growing markets.

Also into the measure go pineapples, hot oat cereals and takeaway chicken & chips.

Guessing what connects the items in and out of the measure is always a fun way to start a lesson on measuring inflation.
