New agri-tech tools make scarce land more productive by cutting waste and boosting yields.

As land becomes an increasingly scarce factor in agriculture, technologies like hyperspectral satellite imaging and AI analytics can offer ways of raising productivity per hectare. By pinpointing nitrogen levels across fields and combining that with weather, soil and management data, farmers can apply inputs more precisely, reducing costs and waste while increasing output. In economic terms, this boosts marginal returns on fertiliser and land, improves allocative efficiency and mitigates negative externalities like pollution. Investments in such tech can help convert agricultural inputs into higher-value crop output, strengthening the sector’s contribution to GDP.
