Economist saves the world from alien abduction!

When discussing the theory of rational consumer behaviour (in today’s lesson it was in the context of marginal utility) I show the students the following cartoon and commercial.

The commercial shows what a prefect world might look like (can be seen here) and although I often have to explain the Star Trek reference in the cartoon, it makes the point that the theory and reality are not always a perfect match, although the theory does help to save the world!
