Apple fined Euro 1.8 billion over Apple Music Competition Issue
4th March 2024
The EU Competition authorities have put the boot in as far as Apple is concerned with a massive 1.8 billion euro fine for Apple who have been found guilty of using their AppStore in an anti-competitive fashion, making consumer pay more for music streaming. In essence, other services were not allowed to alert consumer to their lower costs.
Apple, of course, are free to appeal but the fine - four times what most analysts expected - is seen as a real deterrent, and designed to signal to other tech companies that erecting barriers to entry to impede competition is going to come with a hefty penalty.
