Amazon enters the business supplies market

Economies of scope and scale, contestable markets, monopsony power and the power of brand all come together with this news from Amazon.

I suspect small businesses have been buying much from Amazon for many years - from printer inks to tea bags. Now Amazon Business is rolling out on a much larger scale. Consider the competitive challenges this will face for office supply businesses such as Viking Direct and Staples.
