2nd pay rise in a year lifts Lidl to highest-paying supermarket
23rd September 2022
This is an interesting look at the competition for labour in the supermarket industry with Lidl offering its workers a second pay rise this year, making it the best paying UK supermarket.
There's lots that can be inferred from this: it's difficult to recruit in the sector at the moment; given the market structure, is it likely that other supermarkets are going to have to follow suit; does it illustrate something about the how the objectives of Lidl differ from other supermarkets and how it is faring in the current economic environment.
Just lots of good economics lies behind a relatively simple headline.
