Kellie Bright’s campaign to support SEND children

Eastenders actress, Kellie Bright has started a campaign called Post SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) requesting parents of SEND children to share their experiences of navigating the support for SEND children.

She has shared her personal experiences in interviews and on social media about her children and their needs which include Dyslexia, ADHD and Autism. She highlights that the current systems do not adequately support SEND children. Bright has spoken publicly about this issue for some time, attempting to draw attention to the cracks in the system.

Post SEND is a campaign that has been launched in recent weeks to encourage families to anonymously share their experiences of navigating the SEND systems in their schools and local authorities. The project aims to highlight the genuine struggles but also to provide hope for families who need it. It is also an opportunity to provide a community of support for the families in need. Anyone can take part, including parents, teachers, grandparents and even the child themselves.

Kellie has been an advocate for SEND for years and fronted a documentary about family’s experiences of the system for the BBC last year which highlighted the struggles that families have with getting EHCPs for their children.

Government figures show that 1 in 6 students in the UK have SEND needs and because figures have risen quickly, systems are not able to provide all the care and support that families need. This campaign comes at convenient time where the recent White Paper released by the Government in Feb 2026 highlights some key changes to the way SEND children will be supported in schools, as discussed in last week’s blog.
