In this activity, students use income elasticity of demand to analyse how rising incomes could affect demand and sales revenue for Fur Less’s budget cat food, Feline Fantastic.

Students analyse how changes in income may affect demand for Feline Fantastic, a budget cat food sold by Fur Less. Using data showing a 4% rise in income and a fall in quantity demanded, they calculate income elasticity of demand and identify the product as an inferior good. They then apply the elasticity figure to a forecast 5% income increase, estimate future packet sales and calculate the resulting sales revenue to support a reasoned conclusion.
