Magnum, Ben & Jerry’s and Häagen-Dazs are all iconic ice cream brands. But now a low fat, low sugar, high protein competitor is making a serious dent in the market share of established products.

This Guardian article tracks the rise of Halo Top, marketed as a healthier alternative to traditional ice cream tubs. The business started life as an entrepreneur mixed ingredients using a $20 ice-cream maker bought off Amazon. Growth has been rapid helped by hugely effective social media. Already some knives are out as to whether Halo Top is as healthy as the marketing suggests. Perhaps Halo Top will become the Marmite of ice-cream?
