Reading recommendation for Work, Poverty and Welfare: The Heat or Eat Diaries

2nd September 2022
Every single day we are bombarded with stories of families up and down the country struggling with the cost of living crisis. Today the chancellor announced that even middle income families will struggle to pay their bills this winter. But just how bad has the cost of living crisis got?
The Heat or Eat Diaries are a heart breaking collection of accounts from people who find themselves in desperate times as the cost of everything is increasing so rapidly.
From James considering turning his fridge off over winter, to Siobhan who is living on cereal and soup, to Liz who is grateful for her doctor's note about her illness, meaning she can't be cut off.
These real-life stories will be useful reading in class or as extra reading for homework.
