Be the Best! Theories and Models Activity for BTEC National Unit 1

Be the Best uses the Unit 1 Theory and Model postcards to develop students’ knowledge and understanding of each of the theories from Unit 1.

In small groups, students use the postcards as a starting point to put together a range of debates, such as:

• Which theory is the best at explaining intellectual and language development - Chomsky or Piaget?
• Which theory is the best at explaining factors affecting human growth and development - Gesell or Bandura?

This activity develops students’ understanding of the theories and also helps secure their understanding of the operative verbs “Discuss” and “Evaluate.” This will help them to answer exam questions where opposing views are required in the responses.
