Theory in Action: Applying Knowledge to Case Studies

By completing the included activities, students will learn to apply health and social care concepts to real-life case studies by practising the method:

Explain → Apply → Impact

The knowledge utilised in this specific activity is A1: Values essential to health and social care practice, from Unit 3. However, students can be encouraged to use this method throughout their work, as application to the given case studies is key to success in the Unit 3 Pearson Set Assignment (PSA).

Students are provided with a concept card and a matching case study scenario. They must prepare a three-part response:

  1. Explain – Define the theory/concept in their own words
  2. Apply – Show how it would look in the given case study
  3. Impact – Explain the positive outcome for the service user/professionals
