It's always tricky to know how to start the GCSE course with students - do you spend an hour relaying expectations and explaining the assessment structure (which they will invariably forget by the time they leave the room) or do you just plough straight into the content? (bearing in mind there's so much of it!)

We have put together this fully resourced introduction lesson so you don't have to worry, including the following activities...

  • Where is the geography? (using image prompts)
  • A brief overview of the course outline, followed by two 30 second challenges to reinforce this
  • The 'golden threads' of GCSE Geography (key concepts)
  • Geography in the News - Summer 2026 (video shorts and discussion questions)
  • Exam skills blast - 5 quick skills questions
  • Altered vowels focus on careers
  • Exit ticket - questions based on the lesson

And it's free to download - even better!
