The Department for Education has published the final subject content for the new Level 3 V Level in Education, which is scheduled for first teaching from September 2027.

ABOUT THE V LEVEL IN EDUCATION

The qualification is intended to provide a broad introduction to education practice across different stages and settings, from early childhood through to adult learning. Students will explore how effective learning is planned, supported, assessed and adapted, while applying their understanding to realistic education scenarios.

The core content includes:

• Planning learning – creating well-structured sessions with clear objectives, appropriate activities, resources and opportunities to assess progress.
• Pedagogy and learning – understanding different teaching approaches, learning activities and physical, virtual and hybrid learning environments.
• Assessment – using assessment information, records and data to evaluate progress, set individual learning goals and provide feedback.
• Inclusion and adaptive teaching – identifying barriers to learning and recommending adaptations that improve access, participation and progress.
• Communication – working purposefully with students, parents, families, carers, colleagues and other professionals.
• Health, safety and safeguarding – understanding relevant responsibilities and planning and completing risk assessments for learning activities.
• Child and young person development – considering how cognitive, physical, social and emotional development can influence learning.

Students will be expected to apply this knowledge through practical work-related tasks, including planning learning sessions, adapting provision, evaluating assessment information and making evidence-based recommendations.

The emphasis is therefore not on training students to become qualified teachers, but on building a strong applied understanding of how education and learning work in practice and providing a foundation for further study, apprenticeships and education-related careers.
