Using the Rugby World Cup to look at Index Numbers

Jonny Clark

16th September 2015

Here's a nice resource from the furtive imagination of regular tutor2u contributor Penny Brooks. Like many of you, Penny is looking to ensure that general numeracy and other quantitative methods are introduced at every opportunity in preparation for the examinations of the new specifications for A Level Economics. At this stage of the year, it is probably a good time to start introducing the notion of index numbers, their use and their calculation. Although students won't be expected to actually calculate an index number in the AS exams that will take place in May/June 2016, an understanding of how they're calculated is valuable as well as good preparation for the A level exams that will follow.
