Tesco halts Xmas card production over alleged forced labour
22nd December 2019
A Christmas story with a difference. In this case, a worker in a Chinese card factory producing cards for Tesco smuggled out a message highlighting working conditions.
The message read: "We are foreign prisoners in Shanghai Qingpu prison China. Forced to work against our will. Please help us and notify human rights organisation." As a result, Tesco have delisted the supplier.
This is a good example of the extent to which the narrow pursuit of profit can compromise ethical standards.
