This is an excellent article that highlights the extent to which we are dependent upon mathematics to sustain our supply chain.
It also helps to explain why we are currently experiencing shortages at the current time. It's a really interesting read and explains the fact that even in a world with powerful computers, sometimes heuristics are the best way forward.
