Amazon’s £40bn investment is likely to create thousands of UK jobs, expand warehouse capacity and boost long-term economic growth.

Amazon’s £40bn commitment represents a major influx of foreign direct investment, strengthening both aggregate demand and aggregate supply in the UK economy. The creation of thousands of jobs across regions will help reduce unemployment and stimulate local consumption, contributing to short-run AD growth. Simultaneously, infrastructure developments—such as new fulfilment centres and upgraded logistics—enhance productive capacity, shifting AS outward and supporting long-run economic growth. Increased business investment also signals rising investor confidence in the UK’s economic environment, potentially attracting further FDI and fostering regional development and innovation beyond London and the South East.
