Globalisation - Apple shifts more manufacturing toward Vietnam
24th August 2022
Here is a really interesting piece in the Financial Times about Apple's plans to move more manufacturing towards Vietnam.
The FT reports that Apple is in discussions to make Apple Watches and MacBooks in Vietnam for the first time. Apple Watches require a more sophisticated production line and will test Vietnam's capabilities to move up the value chain in digital hardware. But there has already been a successful switch to assembling Apple iPads to Vietnam in recent years.
Apple is not alone in looking for others countries to base manufacturing as they seek to reduce their dependence on China. Supply-chain disruptions have proved costly in recent times.
