Data Starter: Private rent and house price inflation 2016-2026

How much have rents and house prices increased in the last decade?

Using the ONS chart (scroll down to Figure 1) on https://www.ons.gov.uk/economy/inflationandpriceindices/bulletins/privaterentandhousepricesuk/september2026 do these data calculation questions:

  1. Identify two significant features of the trend in house price inflation in the UK since 2016 up to August 2026.
  2. Create an index for private rent prices for each year, August 2021 to August 2026, setting the base year in August 2021. How much have private rents increased between August 2021 and August 2026?
