Cost Crisis Worsens for UK Care Homes
31st August 2022
Paul Brand has reported for ITV in stark terms about the cost pressures facing care homes as winter approaches.
It is a reminder that so many different sectors and organisations are trying to cope with rising prices. Care homes face closure and many are having to cut back on food and other essential services to stay afloat.
They are asking the UK government to extend the energy price cap to care homes, where it currently doesn’t apply. Looking after people at home affords some form of protection via the price cap although as we know, this is jumping to unprecedented levels.
According to this report from ITV, energy bills are up 165%, food up 31%, staff payroll up 60% and agency staff up 406%. Just how high can fees be raised to help overcome this cost hike? And who will be able to pay?
