30th March 2020

My article of the day is the latest Monday briefing from Ian Stewart and his team at Deloitte.

In "Fighting the downturn" they look at some of the off-the-scale macro policy interventions that have been introduced in different countries as governments and central banks have scrambled to mitigate the worst impact of the crisis on jobs and (ultimately) the supply-side capacity of the economy. Professor Charles Bean from the London School of Economics has also written a short comment piece here on the economics of coronavirus.

And this report in the Guardian this morning looks at new research from Ernst and Young which finds that a sizeable proportion of businesses are looking to accelerate the drive towards automation as a firewall against future crises.
