Can China be Rich and Green?

Graham Watson

13th September 2015

This is a light-hearted view of China's capacity to continue to grow given its environmental problems. But we should be careful when we apportion blame: we've gone through the same process during the Industrial Revolution, and, the Chinese are, in effect, producing these goods for us - so we've largely exported the environmental problems.

Additionally, environmental protection is a luxury good - and as China grows it will consume more of it, and the market will promote environmentally friendly methods of production too
