Reimagining the A Level Economics Classroom is a brand new CPD event from tutor2u, designed exclusively for experienced Economics teachers who are ready to take their practice to the next level.

You already know how to teach the specification. This day is for teachers who want to teach it better - more creatively, more memorably, and in a way that genuinely makes students think.

Through live modelling, engaging conversations with those at the cutting-edge, collaborative workshops and hands-on resource creation, this event explores how to build deeper thinking, sharper discussion, richer real-world connections and more memorable learning into A level Economics.

You will leave with adaptable resources, new lesson structures and practical ideas for simulations, enquiry learning and AI-assisted classroom design.

What we'll cover

  • The morning session equips delegates with ideas and practical activities on moving students beyond surface-level understanding and into genuine economic thinking about real-world issues.
  • We focus on higher order and critical thinking skills, theme-based and enquiry-based learning, and broader skills including oracy to transform how students engage with economics.
  • The session combines input from the tutor2u team with hands-on activities and collaborative workshopping with experts including leading thinkers, practitioners and innovators from across economics education to share ideas and give delegates the chance to design and adapt approaches for their own classrooms.
  • Speakers include:
  • Jennifer Brandsberg-Engelman, the Project Lead for Regenerative Economics in Secondary Schools. She works to support national and international curriculum authorities to shift paradigms in economics education. Jennifer will be introducing her work and the concept of regenerative economics, and helping delegates to actively explore how they can embed more of these ideas into the A level economics curriculum, within the boundaries of the specifications and assessments.
  • Ramin Nassehi, an Associate Professor (Teaching) of Economics at University College London. Ramin’s economics expertise is in Economic History, brought to life by his UCL Economics Walks, and International Economics including political economy. His education research interests are in place-based teaching, producing engaging multimedia approaches to communicating economics and encouraging interaction in large group teaching. He is also a member of the CORE Economics team. Find out more about Ramin here. Ramin will be helping delegates to explore place-based learning as a means of teaching the A level curriculum.
  • George Vlachonikolis, an Assistant Head with expertise in educational assessment and staff development, particularly initial teacher training. His subject specialisms are in economics and financial literacy, and his teaching philosophy grounded in dialogue and social constructivism (oracy). George’s LinkedIn profile is available here. George will be guiding delegates through ideas for embedding stronger financial literacy and oracy skills into economics teaching.
  • Ruth Tarrant, who is subject lead in economics at tutor2u, a Chair of Examiners for an A level awarding body, and lecturer in economics at the University of Oxford. She is a Fellow of the Royal Economic Society. Ruth’s LinkedIn profile is available here. She has a particular interest in the paradigms and nature of economic thought, and how appropriate economic tools are selected to help us solve problems. Ruth will be supporting delegates with designing questions and broad themes to help restructure the order and method of teaching economics in the A level classroom, and the development of higher order and critical thinking skills.

  • The final session of the day is a fully hands-on workshop led by tutor2u founder Jim Riley, focusing on two of the most powerful tools available to Economics teachers today: simulations and artificial intelligence.
  • Delegates will explore how simulations can be used to make abstract economic concepts concrete, memorable and genuinely engaging — and, in a live 'have a go' activity, will work through the process of generating their own simulation from scratch. This is a practical, participatory session: come ready to build something.
  • The second half of the workshop turns to AI, not as a gimmick, but as a genuine time-saving and creativity-enhancing tool for busy teachers. Delegates will leave with practical AI-assisted workflows for designing resources, creating differentiated materials and building richer learning experiences without adding to their workload.
  • Delegates are asked to bring a laptop or device for the live activities in this session.
