There is a debate between sociologists about whether the society in which we live today – global, fast-moving, uncertain – is a wholly new era called postmodernity, or is rather a particular phase of the modern era, which is usually called late modernity, and sometimes liquid modernity. A sociologist who is strongly associated with this concept is Anthony Giddens.
