Just as teachers might label some pupils as troublemakers or lacking in ability, teachers are also likely to have an image in their minds of the ideal pupil: hard-working, conscientious and studious, helpful and articulate. Stereotypes about some social groups might lead to the stereotypical ideal student being middle class and white (and also quite possibly female).
