The census is an official survey, conducted every 10 years, which is supposed to cover every household in the UK. Although the individual detail is kept confidential for a number of years, the data provides very useful statistics on a wide range of issues. The advantage of using the census is that it comes very close to including 100% of the target population (if the target population should be everyone in the UK).
