The Housing Ladder in the UK
19th November 2019
This article examines the lengths that some UK would-be home owners go to to save money for a deposit on their first home.
There are a number of schemes available for people who wish to buy their own home; such as shared ownership and right to buy schemes. However, many of the options have restrictions. Last week the government pledged to build 200,000 starter homes in England for first-time buyers under the age of 40.
Chris Wood, the head of policy at Shelter believes that the government need to build more social housing rather than investing in private schemes. In addition, to this he argues that home ownership should not be the focus for individuals.
