This article focuses on how childhood has changed throughout history, or at least the perception of it.
The historian, Philippe Aries believed that childhood didn’t exist in medieval Europe. Imagery from this period generally shows children looking strangely like mini adults.
It wasn’t until the industrial revolution when children became a source of income for families that a greater interest was taken into the nature of childhood and ultimately their welfare.
