How should children be educated? In a school or at home?

This article attempts to partly address these questions through interviews with families that have decided to homeschool their children. The number of children being homeschooled has risen to approximately 48,000 (figures 2016-2017).

There are critics of homeschooling and whilst the article explores some of this, another interesting insight relates to the British education system itself and whether the existing model of education fits with contemporary society.

The article could be used within the Education unit, and could extend into examining the factors that might preclude some families from being able to do this with their children (finances, class, gender, ethnicity).
