Communist Billionaires

14th February 2019

A short video from Bloomberg looking at why Communist China has so many billionaires.

In the late 1970s, China opened up to foreign investment and very quickly moved from a primarily agricultural economy to manufacturing. This has led to the country becoming the world's second largest economy. Part of that success can also be attributed to the country's focus in more recent years on high-tech manufacturing including mobile phones and software.

The video could be used within the Global Development unit and within Theory and Methods (Marxism).
