The content covers legal responsibilities and health and safety approaches, focusing on how to recognise hazards and risks to children. Furthermore, you’ll explore the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and crucial safeguarding responsibilities (including responding to child abuse), all while developing your exam skills through scaffolded and practice questions.

Section 1 provides an overview of the Unit 2 assessment, looking at assessment outcomes, the exam paper format and tier 2 vocabulary essential for reading and comprehending exam questions.

Section 2 is a guide to the different question types by command verb, that you can expect to encounter in the Unit 2 exam. Exam technique for each question type is explained, and there are worked exam answers as well as scaffolded exam practice questions in this section.

Section 3 is matched to the content areas of the specification and features a range of exam practice questions with space for you to write your answers. There are opportunities to recall and test knowledge and understanding for Assessment Outcomes 1 and 2, as well as opportunities to practice application and make connections through analysis and evaluation for Assessment Outcomes 3, 4a and 4b. This section is packed with exam and revision tips.

Section 4 is a revision toolbox. It presents a revision strategy, a wealth of suggested revision activities, and provides a revision schedule and checklist. Revision templates are available to download separately, for students wishing to undertake suggested activities.

Content warning: Please note some of the topics covered in this Exam Skills Book relate to sensitive topic areas including safeguarding, child protection, child abuse, physical abuse and injury, neglect, emotional abuse, sexual abuse and domestic abuse. Teacher supervision is advised when students are completing these areas of the Exam Skills Book.
