Suggested Answer: Tom’s refusal to take part in the play demonstrates that another position is acceptable and helps to break the unanimity of the majority position. This provides support to Daniel’s and Matthew’s non-conformity behaviour (not wanting to take part in the school play) and will increase their ability to resist the social pressure/influence. Furthermore, by refusing to take part in the play, Tom is providing social support to Daniel and Matthew which will also increase their ability to resist social influence.
