A tissue is formally defined as a group of similar cells, along with their associated extracellular material, that are specialised to perform a particular function or set of functions. There are four primary types of tissue in the human body:

  1. Epithelial tissue
  2. Connective tissue
  3. Muscle tissue
  4. Nervous tissue
