Attached mainly to the bones of the skeleton, this muscle tissue type has cells (fibres) which are long, cylindrical, and multinucleated (contain many nuclei), with characteristic striations (visible bands or stripes due to the arrangement of contractile proteins). The primary function of this tissue is voluntary movement.
