This resource covers the command words used in the internally assessed coursework Units (3-7) in the AAQ BTEC National in Health & Social Care. It is ideal for a student handout or even a classroom poster display.

For each command word:

  • The Pearson definition is given, with a simple student friendly explanation of what this requires
  • Suitable sentence starters are provided
  • A list of 'questions to ask yourself' is listed, to help students reflect critically on whether they have responded in the right way
  • It is stated whether the word is used in Pass, Merit or Distinction assessment criteria

As the resource contains command words for all internally assessed units, you may wish to print/issue only those relevant to the units you choose to deliver. For example, the command word 'compare' is used in Units 4 and 7 only, and the command word 'plan' is only used in Unit 5.
