Karl Liebknecht was a German socialist and a co-founder with Rosa Luxemburg of the Spartacist League and the Communist Party of Germany. Liebknecht was one of the leaders of the Spartacist revolt in January 1919 and was executed following his capture when the uprising was defeated.
