Tropical tree loss at high levels

Despite interventions over decades to protect primary tropical rainforests, some areas are experiencing deforestation at an alarming rate.
Whilst rates for 2018 are down against 2017, deforestation was still occurring at a rate of 30 football fields a minute. The overall trend since 2001 is one of an increase in deforestation and whilst historically Brazil and Indonesia were the countries experiencing the greatest losses, there is now evidence that other areas are experiencing a sudden increase in deforestation, such as countries in central Africa.
